Guriel rival groups agree to ceasefire
Rival armed groups fighting for control of Guriel town in Galgadud region have agreed to a ceasefire proposed by a reconciliation commission tasked to negotiate a peace deal between the Ahlu Sunna militias and Somali government forces.
Recent clashes in the town left more than 20 people, mainly combatants, dead and more others injured.
Mohamed Ahmed Alim, chairman of the commission and former Galmudug president, told Bar-kulan he was hopeful of finding a solution for the political tension in the area.
He urged the rival sides to settle their differences peacefully and give priority to dialogue in order to permanently resolve their differences.
His commission include members from the traditional elders and peacemakers of Mudug and Galgadud region.
The armed Ahlu Sunna group currently controls the town after successfully repulsing attacks by the government forces outside the town.
